Typically, I use very traditional, yoga-inspired embroidery designs as embellishment on my yoga mat bags – like these for example…..very colourful, yet serene and VERY serious…..
Colourful Lotus
Sunshine Aum
(Both of these designs are available from Windstar Embroidery).
On a whim one morning, I decided to shake it up – just a wee bit – and did an online search for something different. Landing at embroidery Library inc. I instantly fell in love with these charming and whimsical animal yogis. These designs are definitely NOT serious, and became the focal point of several new yoga mat bag designs.
Synchronicity and my good fortune led Theresa Plenert-Swain to purchase one of my new canine-themed yoga mat bags.
The synchronistic part is that Theresa is heavily involved with ARF, an acronym for Animal Rescue Foundation. ARF does exactly what its name implies; the organization rescues reserve dogs and cats and places them in loving, adoptive homes. Theresa graciously dedicates at least six hours a week to her volunteer tasks with ARF – photographing newly rescued puppies, raising money via calendar sales and acting as a temporary foster “parent”.
Theresa’s creative puppy photos are then posted on Facebook and on the ARF website. As one would imagine, viewers fall head over heels for the sweet, rescued canines. Every adoptable, rescued animal by ARF finds its forever home; some rescues take longer than others to place, but homes are eventually found for all. What a lovely and rewarding aspect of Theresa’s volunteer life.
Like me, Theresa practices yoga. She loves the feeling of complete rejuvenation that she experiences at the end of each class. Yoga is such a great way to physically and mentally recharge…..just what Theresa needs in order to keep up with all her puppy kids!
Kim
Greetings from Kamloops! I just discovered you while reading my copy of studios magazine. I am a hardcore quilter, so love reading about other quilters—especially so close to home. I will be coming back to see what you are creating next : )
I love looking at your projects – they are beautiful! I am hopeless at Appliqe (sp?) & embroidery. I usually stick to patchwork, blocks & machine quilting. I will definitely be back to see more of your designs! Have a great weekend! 🙂
Kim..what a great story! Theresa is a wonderful person! God bless both of you! It’s funny how people connect in this world. I just started quilting about one year ago and I have met some wonderful people! Quilters are a unique breed of people!
